Unphotographable

This is a picture I did not take

of a modern American skyline, shineless beneath an overcast sky, the air below the low-hanging cloud dulled with car exhaust and smoke from forest fires three hundred miles away, and as the city wheezed and warmed into late afternoon, a shaft of light burned through a heart-shaped hole (heart-shaped!) in the cloud, and as the light burst through, it looked like it was singeing the edges of the heart-shaped cut, and after clearing the cloud, was defracting into rays made all the more visible by the smoke and exhaust, so much so, the scene looked fantastical and airbrushed, like the back of someone's souvenir t-shirt from a city of the future where the air's unbreathable but the skyline's lit like Oz by light from a heart-shaped hole in the sky.
