This is a picture I did not take
of hundreds of schoolchildren walking from their school's morning shift
beneath a Ethiopian sun at noon on a Thursday in October -- and the look
on the face of an Ethiopian boy in a Manchester United jersey, when I
crawled back into contention in our outdoor table tennis match 13-16 on
the eaten away ping-pong table just outside the school's gates, with
cracked paddles and a forlorn ball held together with scotch tape.
